  • Richard Scott: Several Circles (Vinyl)

    Richard Scott: Sev...

Richard Scott’s ‘Several Circles’ is a seamless blend of improvised performances and forensically detailed electronic music that bristles, writhes and grows like some mutated living organism. Recorded between 2013 and 2015 in both Manchester and Berlin, this vital new album is a combination of instant, improvised performances and highly structured acousmatic compositions that have been, in Richard’s own words, “microscopically edited, constructed, layered and mixed over many hours in the studio.” Far from being a dry, academic exercise, Richard’s music shower the ears with delicious and incessantly changing sound pools. Tracks like ‘Song for Ghosts’, ‘Noodles’ and ‘Remains’ showcase Scott’s …

  • Aukai: Aukai (Vinyl)

    Aukai: Aukai (Viny...

In a lot of ways, Aukai’s self-titled debut is the sound of Markus Sieber bringing his career full circle. Having spent part of the ’90s playing rock music in East Germany, the composer/multi-instrumentalist then shifted his focus to acting, only to have music creep back into his life after a mind-altering move to Mexico. Aukai was born of his desire to create music that could work in tandem with film, video, theater and the visual arts. The compositions on the album also grew out of Sieber’s love affair with the ronrocco, a plucked string instrument from Argentina that Sieber first …

  • Mytrip: Filament (Vinyl)

    Mytrip: Filament (...

Following last year’s Mytrip highly appreciated vinyl debut Empty, the Bulgarian ambient / drone artist is back with a long-anticipated full-length album. In Filament Mytrip is delving deeper into his raw and complex soundscapes. This time they are enriched by tense melodies, blurry rhythmic patterns and organic field recordings. Breathing on the thin borderline of ambient, drone and dub, Filament is Mytrip’s most emotionally and musically varying release so far. The record was written to be experienced live, thus it carries the signature aural harshness of the artist’s recent works. Combined with Mytrip’s immense love for drifting sonic environments Filament …

  • Ned Milligan: Continental Burns (Vinyl)

    Ned Milligan: Cont...

The third album by Ned Milligan and the first to reach an audience beyond family and friends, Continental Burns is the result of getting reacquainted with the act of making music and diving into the experience of creating short films. Composed primarily over the summer of 2014, Continental Burns was created with two sides in mind. The first five tracks (which also score the video of the same name) share a certain kinship; the sixth complements what came before while departing from it at the same time. A lot of this music came out of Ned’s longstanding interest in repeating …

The alchemist Jim Haynes said of his work: “like falling snow, his dreamy work drifts with a poetic chill and tranquil hypnosis through which peripheral elements tease the listener with subtle details. it’s so damn beautiful…” A bit of background on this release: one of the great inspirations for invisible birds was Bernhard Günter and his seminal label trente oiseaux. the releases had an enormous influence and one of the gems was Keith Berry’s The Golden Boat. E and I: The Colour Of Sound (2xCD)

” Ever since I was a child numbers and colors went side by side… I saw a number and it was transformed into an undulating pulsating hue of shimmering beauty…  It was an immediate emotional appearance, one that I could not control or explain. Gradually the same became of music…   Sounds as pieces began to shape into waves of colors, moving as waves in the sea. Sounds overlapping, shades of colors… All in my mind…     I could not explain them, nor describe them…  All I knew was to feel them and try to nurture them.. As they became the aura that surrounded the connection between music and my feelings… They only appeared when the music was intimate, small, shy and reclusive, when the music grew out of a place I could not control nor understand, when the music became my voice or when it blossomed in friendship…”

    Cynthia: Between t...

“Piss Off! I’m not interested” I would have walked out the door, but had nowhere to go, and you knew it. Without belief, Without hope, Without love, There is nothing. I stand between two worlds. I would paint the release as dealing with the complexities and fragilities of close inter-personal relationships, when removed from the comforts of the established norms and place. The title track ‘Between two worlds’ describes the slow process of disintegration and fracturing of such ties. An initial period calm is replaced by chaotic episodes, shifting uncertainties that are represented by the layers of ambient noise, almost …

  • Ian Martin: Notations of the Form (CD)

    Ian Martin: Notati...

This album has undoubtedly Ian Martin’s blueprint sound, but it is one in evolution. Whereas previous releases like ‘Intensions’ and ‘Mechanical Rain’ had a more fluid and languid feel, Ian is increasingly adopting a more musique concrete approach to his work. Using elements and sounds from his everyday life, Ian manipulates these to create both melody and, occasionally, a bass line. Moreover, songs like ‘Love Or Art’ or ‘Medusa’ contain touches of playfulness without losing mystique or underlying tension. The album draws you into a world of contrasts; dreamy landscapes and beauty on the one side, paranoïa and menace on …

The shortest tale can leave the longest impression. Devourings collects a variety of stories – each its own piece but bound to the next by a broader, unifying theme: being enveloped, devoured, by a moment, an encounter, a political situation, an emotion – which connect with absolute potency. Be they over a handful of paragraphs or a spread of pages, these short – and shorter – stories linger with a palpable resonance. Devourings travels to many destinations, encompassing several scenarios and introducing myriad protagonists – and, frequently, antagonists. ‘Esthers’ follows a snaking murder plot set in 1940s Argentina; the malevolent …

The Spirit was locally called Angelystor.” – Elias Owen, 1887 Estimated at 4,000 to 5,000 years old, the ancient yew in the churchyard of St. Digain, Llangernyw may be oldest living thing in the British Isles. Atay Ilgun: Enuma ...

Also spelled as ‘Enuma Elish’, Enûma Eliš is the Babylonian creation mythos named after its opening words (incipit) which means ‘when on high’. It’s about thousand lines recorded in Old Babylonian on seven clay tablets. Here on this chapbook, the term ‘when on high’ is re-worked as poems about life, creation, death and eternity. Following a vague sequence, it starts covering meditations on flowers, stars, life and the idea of most absolute beginning and ending, but till the end poem itself finds remedies in the everlasting harmony of incarnation and fragments which has no beginning or ending. Even in smallest …
